Another Day, Another Show

So I added the "Free $500 Best Buy Gift Card" Fan Page to my Facebook account tonight, and I'm fairly certain I sent it straight to hell. Here's hoping my repeated contacting of Facebook will help get rid of that quicker than it appears. Otherwise, new Facebook account time. Ugh, that won't be very fun.

Otherwise, decent nights of TV watching over the past two days.

Watched the newest Chuck episode on Monday ("Chuck Versus the Fake Name"), and it was fairly well done. Nice to see Paulie Walnuts living past his Sopranos days. I've noticed its getting less comedic and a whole lot more dramatic in the last few episodes (at least from what I've seen, missed at least two). They just seem to want to catch a more serious, action driven tone lately, and less slapstick buffoonery. Not sure how I like that idea, given how the whole comedy/romance/action style has really been key to the show's success. But we shall see.

Tonight, caught the latest Lost ("Sundown"), which proved to be a totally "meh" affair by the end of it. Sure, all hell is breaking loose and the end game is slowly being set up piece by agonizing piece, but much like the show's third episode (technically second, after the two part season opener), it just did not do much for me. It developed the mythology yes, but it just seemed to be a fairly murky, throwaway episode hiding a crucial part of the show's final season. And plus, if the CTV preview mentioning the "demise" of a certain character sorely lacking in this season is a hint of next week's episode, well then I'm going to be pissed right off.

Finally, watched the premiere of Parenthood, and again, not overly impressed. It had some good moments, some funny lines and Craig T. Nelson, but it just seemed to have far too much going on all at once. I dig the cast, and will give the show a second shot, but I can only hope the next episodes aren't so jampacked with information on every character. We are supposed to get to know these characters over a season (or half a season), not fully know everything about them in one episode and then have zero to no development on any front for the rest of the season. Again, I hope that does not happen, but somehow I think it might. And Peter Krause has not been doing all that great since Six Feet Under, so the streak may just continue...

Got a Time Traveler's Wife review coming up tomorrow, and I will be watching the final three Best Picture nominated movies over the next few days. None of them stand a chance in hell of winning the award, but I like having seen all of them before the big dance. Ta for now.

Extract, and Other Musings from February 8

So I figured out that I could delete old blogs, so you may never get to see my old one now.

But since I liked what I wrote there, here's my thoughts on Extract and the Super Bowl. Yay.

Watched a few other movies last week, including Southland Tales and Edge of Darkness, both of which should have full reviews up as the week goes on. At the same time, I got Michael Jackson's This is It and Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever in for review from DVDFanatic, so they should keep me busy for the next few days when I am not playing God of War II. Seems like it could be a great game, if I spent more time fighting and less time riding a Pegasus.

But that's how the week is looking like it will go. The weekend kind of flew by me without my noticing. It was not helped by Super Bowl 44, which was a fairly epic game, but only moderately exciting. I got more enjoyment watching a "rapture" themed episode of American Dad! and the second half of Tropic Thunder after the game, than I did during the actual game. But hey, for someone who's not really into football all that much, it served its purpose.

But that's all for now. Here's hoping I can crank out more posts this week than last...

So clearly that was a failure of a blog. I know I will do better this time. Won't be writing Southland or Darkness reviews any time soon, although I really dug Darkness and hated almost every minute of Southland. Review links for the other two are at the bottom of this page. Still haven't beat God of War II either, but I have until March 16th to do that...

The Start

So here is the restart of my blogging attempt. My other attempt last month, failed miserably, both because I just was not feeling it, and my blog's title was way too long for its own good. I'm sure you can find it if you search around, and you'll find my two posts I made. Ah Extract, how I hardly knew ye.

So as I tried out before, this will be fairly entertainment based blog talking about movies, TV, games, and other methods of madness the media use to shape you and me. Mostly I'm going to use it to talk about what I watched that day, and supplement it with thoughts on those items. Will also use it for shortened reviews that I do not feel need the treatment of the types of lengthy reviews I post on IMDB under the name DonFishies. And I may even hype my up and coming podcast, The Movie Chasm with Matt Layden and soon to be Greg 'The Keg' Derkach, as well.

But of course, that all depends on me actually going through with all of this. So here's hoping.

As for the title? Well batmanandeye read a lot more clever than batmanandi, but I figured I would mention the man because of the profound effect he has had on me in the past few years. First there was The Dark Knight, which may prove to be the film I most hyped myself up for ever, and a film I absolutely adore. It gets better with each viewing and feels more fresh every time. Second, I used the film series as a basis for my fourth year thesis, which nearly killed me and actually helped kill my long-term relationship. So I owe a lot to the man, and figure I would offer an ode of recognition to him with this blog.

And with that, we cue the music.
